Fashion Studies Information Session June 27

College of DuPage will hold an information session for the Fashion Studies program at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, in the Student Resource Center, Room 1005.

The Fashion Studies program provides courses to students interested in fashion illustration, textiles, clothing construction and fashion show production. Degrees are offered in Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Apparel Production, while students can earn one of four certificates.

At the beginning of the year, the program moved into its new home in the SRC. Formerly a lounge area that was part of the College’s Student Life program, the new space was renovated specifically for the Fashion Studies program and features three classrooms that include a lecture room, a dedicated sewing lab and a textile design lab, each with a wall of windows that provides natural light. Outside of the classrooms is a hallway with three professional-grade showcases that give visual merchandising students hands-on experience while allowing other classes to display their creations.

In addition to academic information, the information session will offer details about careers, admissions and financial assistance as well as tours and the opportunity to speak with faculty and current students.

For more information or to RSVP, call (630) 942-2502, emailgayanna@cod.edu or visit www.cod.edu/programs/fashion.

IFTF ReMix International Student Fur Design Competition June 4, 2013

Fur ruled the runways again for Fall 2013. No longer considered just a trend, fur has taken its place as a staple for countless mainstream designers looking to up the luxe factor of their collections. No longer just a fabric relegated to cooler months, we are seeing fur pop up in spring and summer lines as well.

Celebrating this love affair with fur, the Fur Information Council of America would like to foster this same affinity for this organic fabric with up-and-coming young designers. In this light, we are pleased to announce the 13th Annual IFTF ReMix International Student Fur Design Competition, and we invite your students to participate in this exciting event. Newly added to this year’s competition is a Menswear design category recognizing the growing popularity of using fur in men’s collections.

Last year’s contest saw close to 100 entries from 18 different schools around the country, and we anticipate this year to be even bigger! We were honored to have student designer Margaret Karczewski, from Parsons New School of Design in New York, selected as one of the U.S. finalists that was invited to compete in the international competition at the 2013 MiFur in Milan Italy.

This competition offers your students and your school:

  • Worldwide exposure and a chance to have your students’ designs exhibited at MiFur the prestigious international fur fashion trade show held in Milan, Italy.
  • The chance to win generous cash prizes
  • The chance to receive paid travel to Milan for MiFur
  • Exposure in leading international fashion magazines

Enclosed in this package are the rules, regulations and logistics for the 2013 competition so you can start to plan submissions with your students.  Entry forms are also easily downloadable from our website,www.fur.org.  Fur retailers in every major US city will be glad to answer any questions or provide guidance as your students begin to work on their projects.

PLEASE NOTE that because of tight production timelines, we will not be extending any extension to student to submit their entries. We strongly suggest that you encourage your students to work on their designs over the summer break so they are ready for the Friday September13th, 2013 deadline.
