Course Descriptions:
FLAT PATTERN II (FASHI 1102)
Advanced principles of flat pattern design, including, dress, jacket, and pants.
Requirement: Second semester Fashion Design AAS and Certificate students should co register with Fashion 1156. Prerequisite: Fash 1101 and Fash 1155
DESIGN PRINCIPLES (FASHI 1105)
Basic design principles as applied to apparel. The relationship of form to function, analysis of garment design, interpretation of fashion trends, and expression of individuality are emphasized. Requirement: Fashion Design AAS students Elective: all Fashion students
FASHION PROMOTION (FASHI 1120)
Introductory course in preparation, production, and merchandising of fashion shows with traditional and creative contemporary approaches. Students in this class produce the departments annual spring fashion show. Requirement: Fashion Merchandising students Elective: all Fashion students
FASHION PROMOTION II (FASHI 1840) Be a student producer for the spring fashion and jury shows. Develop your hands on skills in management and fashion coordination.
Requirement: Fashion 1120 and permission from Sharon Scalise Elective: all Fashion Students
HISTORY OF COSTUME II (FASHI 1131)
History of costume through the ages with emphasis on the Western world: 16th century through fashions of the future. NO PREREQ REQUIRED. Requirement: First or second year Fashion Design or Merchandising AAS students.
PRINCIPLES OF TEXTILES (FASHI 1151)
Principles of Textiles provides an overview of the fabric industry. Students learn to identify fibers, yarns and fabric, and to evaluate their performance in specific end uses. Requirement: First or Second year Fashion Design or Merchandising AAS students
CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION I (FASHI 1155)
Exposes students to beginning construction and fit skills. Learn to create a perfect skirt and an additional garment. Ideal course for the person who wants to learn or improve their beginning sewing and fitting skills. Requirement: First year Fashion Design AAS and Certificate students. Elective: Fashion Merchandising and Community Members
CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION I I (FASHI 1156) CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION II (FASHI 1156)
Clothing construction course designed for those who are familiar with the operation of a sewing machine, fabric and pattern selection, and basic sewing techniques. Emphasis on professional quality construction techniques. Development of fit techniques for pants and advanced garments. Requirement: Second semester Fashion Design AAS and Certificate students should co register with Fashion 1102. Prerequisite: FASH 1155 or Consent of instructor
FELTING AND FUSING (FASHI 1183)
NEW COURSE experiment with felting and fusing of fibers and fabrics in the creation of new complex cloth. Learn specialty embellishment techniques to enhance your skills. This course promises to open your eyes on many unique possibilities. Elective: all Fashion students and Community members
APPAREL DESIGN STUDIO (FASHI 2202)
Advanced exploration of a theme or advanced techniques to generate portfolio pieces.
Requirement: Second year second semester Fashion Design AAS degree students: Elective: Fashion Design students who have completed Fashion 202, or 2201
FASHION ILLUSTRATION (FASHI 2211)
Fundamentals of drawing as applied to female fashion figure. Emphasis on apparel and accessory illustration. Requirement: first or second year Fashion Design AAS students Elective: Fashion Merchandising and Community Members
ADVANCED FASHION ILLUSTRATION (FASHI 2212)
Emphasis on texture, color, layout, and additional figure types. Includes development of portfolio. Elective: Fashion Design students who have completed 211, or 2211
FASHION MERCHANDISING AND MARKETING (FASHI 2231)
In this introductory course, students will learn about the international fashion design, wholesale, and retail industries. Requirement: First or Second year Fashion Design or Merchandising AAS students.
FASHION MOTIVATION (FASHI 2251)
Identification of economic and social forces influencing consumer and fashion demand. Color theory and analysis, wardrobing, body type identification, and corporate and personal image. Elective: Fashion Design and Community Members Requirement: Fashion Merchandising students
TEXTILE DYING AND PRINTING I and II (FASHI 2261 and 2262)
Design processes as applied to textiles, covering techniques such as silk screen, block prints, and other processes. Elective: all Fashion students and Community Members
